Fastest production sedan in the world

Jaguar has set a new lap records at Laguna Seca with their new XE SV Project 8. It's incredible specs match that of Bentley's $340,000 Continental GT and a $298,000 Aston Martin DB11 AMR. Just for context the Project at will be starting just north of $200k. With a 5.0l supercharged V8 this track ready sedan is putting out an impressive 592hp and 516lb-ft of torque. Check out the attempt.

I think all this time the potential for car makers to sell a sedan like this has always been around but often it takes one car maker at the right time to make the leap. Mercedes does it already to some extent. But nothing high tier like this or the M4 GTS. Do you think we'll see BMW, Mercedes and Audi respond with a direct rival?

It is pretty incredible what Jaguar has managed to deliver with the street legal track weapon. I didn't realize that it undercut rivals by such a large margin. We'll have to wait and see what model in MB's lineup gets the next AMG Black Series treatment.

Would love to see Mercedes opt for the current e63 to get that trim. And the pricing of all these models really does showcase just how incredible Cadillac's CTS-V. Jaguar has spent 3 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars just to beat its lap time by less than a second.

It seems to me that Mercedes is slowly inching towards that direction. The Edition 1 C-Class was a small step that sets the tone. Too bad once it happens Brabus won't like the new offering.

When you get into vehicles of this caliber, fractions of a second can make all the difference from a consumer perspective. Even though the CTS-V would likely be faster if run on a similar tire setup, I would argue that this is a much sleeker looking car. When it comes to performance cars, its not about price, its about brand.
